Hindemith in New York

A post discussing our upcoming Fall Concert is forthcoming, but I wanted to alert listeners to the season opener of the New York Philharmonic. On the program is Wynton Marsalis’ long-awaited Swing Symphony, the tone poem, Don Juan, by Richard Strauss, and finally, of particular interest to the Bach Choir family, Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber. This piece is a twentieth century classic and a great introduction to Hindemith’s compositional language. The opening Gala will be featured on Live from Lincoln Center, which will be shown, locally, on WLVT on Wednesday, September 22nd, beginning at 9:00 pm. The concert should be quite good, and hearing the Hindemith selections should whet the appetite of our listeners for our own Hinedmith performance (his powerful Apparebit Repentina Dies) at our Fall Concert, this October 24th.
